Melbourne, Wednesday. , In the Assembly last night the Premier, Mr Gillies, announced that the Government had decided to support the compromise made between Messrs Mnnro and Dailes upon the Licensing Bill. Notwithstanding the repeated protests of Mr Carter and those who supDsrted him all amendments to the measure were rejected by the Assembly. Later reports from the Banvigee station state that everything is quiet there at present, but the Unionist shearers maintain a determined attitude. The Government are in receipt of a letter from M. Pasteur, the celebrated inoculator, in which that gentleman recommends the authorities throughout Australasia to extirpate the rabbits by infecting them with an epideniic similar to chicken cholera by sprinkling around their burrows a liquid full of microbes. (Received December 1, 2 a.m.) TheTasmanian Steam Navigation Company's Flinders, which arrived from Launceston this morning, reports that when four miles out from Georgetown (Port Dalyriinpte) a fire broke out aboard, and though it was speedily extinguished, the wool which she was carrying was considerably damaged. Four hundred bundles of straw were jettisoned to avoid risk of ignition.
