TARADALE RIFLE CLUB.

The second annual prize firing of the above club took place at Taradale on SMfvirday. Owing to it not being a hHffay there was not a large attendance oFm embers. There is no doubt that had it been held on the day arranged (Easter Monday) there would have been over double the number, but, as the ammuninition for it did not come to hand in time for that day it bad to be postponed. Saturday was a good day for shooting, and had the canvas target been shaded in the early part of the day the light would have been good throughout for firing at that target, but the sun shining through it at times made the aim very uncertain. This must be remedied at another meeting. The change in one diameter of circles of the third class target, although giving a shootist a bigger score, does not give satisfaction to shooting men, aa an inferior shot gets the same chance as a more steady one, the circles of the inner and magpie being increased from lGin. and 24ia. to 24in. and 36in. respectively. As will be seen by the scores the shooting was good throughout, with the exception of the match at 600 yards for any rifle, where some of our best marksmen came to grief. Great interest was taken „ in this match, owing principally to one of tibo competitors, Mr J. Drnnimond, using a " Creedmore " rifle — a splendid weapon for shooting with — it having become known that Mr Drummond had scored the day before the match 69 points out of a possible 70 at 600 yards, commencing with an inner, and then making 13 bull'seyes in succession. On Saturday, however, owing to the light being uncertain at one time he failed to come anywhere near so good a score, Mr Pram running him pretty close with a carbine for the first prize. It will, however, be seen from the scores that Mr J. Drummond is the most successful competitor, taking off two first, two fourth, and both aggregate nrizea.
