(Received April 21, 1.30 p.m.) Melbourne, Friday. The medical enquiry into the alleged outbreak of small-pox at Hotham shows that the patient is merely suffering from chicken pox. The Defence Department have decided, in case of war being declared, to form a Victorian reserve, the force to consist of 5000 men. (Received April 25, 2.40 a.m.) The Government are in receipt of a telegraphic despatch from the AgentGeneral, Mr Murray Smith, to the effect that war is inevitable, though not immediate.
