HAWKE'S BAY HOSPITAL.

The committee of management of the Hawke's Bay Hospital held their usual meeting yesterday. Present — Mr E. W. Knowles (chairman), Mr F. Sutton, M.H.R., his Worship the Mayor, and Messrs H. P. Cohen, C. L. Margolioutb, S. Carnell, J. A. Smith, and M. R. Miller. VISITING COMMITTEE'S EEPOKT. The following report from the visiting committee waa read : — We have visited the hospital several times during the month, and have found everything satisfactory. The ward kitchen having been noticed by Dr Grabham as requiring re-paint-ing and distempering, and as the painters were then engaged about the building, we deemed it advisable, with the concurrence of the chairman, to order the work to be pro ceeded with at once. The new ward and children's ward are now completely furnished, and are ready for the reception of patients.. The report as to the patients at present in the hospital has been furnished, we are informed, by the Burgeon-superintendent. We would, however, bring the case of the boy Mazengard, admitted to the Hospital on December 17, before the notice of the committee, and whose case ia considered incurable. This patient, who was sent in by Dr bpeneer, has been waiting the operation to be performed by that gentleman, but on speaking to Dr Spencer he informed us that he made it a point of not interfering in any way with the hospital patients, whether sent in by him or not, without the special desire of Dr Menzies, who, on his part, informs us that the mother of the patient, when bringing the boy to the hospital, told him that Dr Spencer would shortly follow and perform the necessary operation, hence the misunderstanding, and as Pr Menzies considers the case incurable we would recommend that the boy's mother be requested to remove him. We would suggest that the quadrangle court be repaired, the concrete being in very bad order, and dangerous to both patients and domestics. The report was adopted, and Messrs Cohen and Carnell were appointed as the visiting committee for the ensuing month. COBRESPONDEtfCE. The following correspondence was read : — From the Wairoa County Council, nominating Mr M. R. Miller as their representative. From Dr Menzies requesting' leave of absence for a month. — Granted, the committee expressing their satisfaction at the manner in which he had carried out his duties. From Mr J. A. Smith, thanking the committee for having elected him a life governor. ME J. A. SMITH. On the motion of Mr Sutton, it was agreed that a life-size portrait of Mr J. A. Smith be painted by Mr; Lindauer and hung in the hospital. Mr Smith stated [that he had attended the meeting to personally thank the members of the committee for the honor they had conferred upon him in electing him a life governor. With regard to the qualification, he might mention that he had contributed about £300 to the hospital. HOSPITAL EETUBN. A return was read of the number of patients in tho hospital, their names, dates of admission, the diseases under which they were Buffering, &c. It was resolved that a similar return should be rendered monthly by the sur-geon-superintendent, and that a book be procured for that purpose. MISCELLANEOUS. The chairman was authorised to sign the vouchers for the furnishing of the new wing, and forward the same to the Government for payment. It was decided that before the new wing be occupied it be thrown open for inspection by the public on the afternoon of Sunday next, and that the Garrison Band be invited to give a concert of sacred music in the grounds. A number of accounts were passed for payment, and the committee adjourned until Tuesday, March 11th.
