CHURCH OF ENGLAND, PORT AHURIRI.

The annual meeting of parishioners at the Spit was held on Wednesday evening, at St. Andrew's temporary church, after the usual divino service had been conducted by the Ri^ht Rev. the Bishop of Waiapu. His Lordship presided, tho Rev. Do Berdfc Hovcll and Mr Welsh being also piesenfc. The Chairman invited the co-operation of those present towards obtaining tho completion of a fund for building the now church at the Spit, a sufficient amount having been already collected to enablo the work to be proceeded with, though not to finish it.

The Secretary (Captain Gleadow) read the balance-sheet for the period ending October, and also read the list of Mr Welsh's duties. The statement respecting tho Sunday-school was to the efhet that ifc commenced last July with 4 or 5 pupils, now had 50 pupils, with a stafli of seven teachers and a superintendent. Mr Welsh also holds a Bible class at Petnne every alternate Sunday, Mis 3 M'Kane undertaking the duty on tho other Sunday. Tho balance-sheet showed a surplus for tbe past year, there being now a balance of £3 3s 6d in hand. The stipend fund had been contributed to. A statement was also read showing that £278 7a had been collected towards the fund for the building of the new church. — £150 having been already paid for a site. The following contributions to the buiding fund wore shown on his Lordship's list : — Tho Bishop of Waiapu, £10 ; Mr J. H. Vautier, £10; Messrs Wardrop and Co., £10; Captain A. Newman, £5 sa; Mrs Grigg, £5; Mr E. Lyndon, £3 3«; Dr Medzie3, £2 2s ; collection at S. John's, Darlinghurst, Sydney, by the Bishop of Waiapu, £20 ; Mr j. M. Tabuteau, £5 5s ; Mr H. C. Robjohns, £3 3a; a thank offering, £2 2s ; Mr R. Foster, £20 ; Mr H. Hill, £2 2s j Mr R. Holt, £5 5s ; Mr H. S. Tiffen, £50 ; Rev. S. Williams. £50 ; Mr W. Morris. £10 ; Mr T. Tanner, £10 ; Mr J. N. Williams, £5 ; Grant from the Hawke's Bay Trust, £50 ; total, £278 7s. As the church will cost £400, a good sum 13 yet required. £14 was collected in the room.

A committee was elected for tho ensuing year, consisting of Captain Gleadow, Messrs R. Holfc, A. Helps, W. Morris, and two others whose names have not been furnished to us.

A meeting of the committee will be held next Monday with the object of taking steps t© collect the balance of the sum required for building purposes.
