NORSEWOOD.

[from an occasional correspondent.] 31st January, 1882.

One of the most successful concerts ever hold in our settlement took place in our school-room on Saturday last. The room was crowded, and those present seemed heartily to enjoy the performance. The instrumental portion of the programme was very much appreciated, and thanks are particularly due to Mr Holm for the able manner in which he conducted the performance aa well as for his own individual efforts on the piano and harmonium. Mrs Thomson and Mr L;uirvig, on the piano and violin respectively, gave great satisfaction, as did also the Lidies and gentlemen who rendered vocal services. The room was very tastefully decorated with ferns and flowers. The funds are to be devoted to the purchase of a harmonium for the Lutheran Church.

The new school committee have commenced businoss by deciding not to put the compulsory clause in force, and I therefore look upon them as next door to useless. They have, however, decided to undertake several much-needed repairs and alterations about the school premiie», and as they are not at all unanimous in their determination to ignore the compulsory clause, they may alter their determination aud become a useful body.

A friend of mine has informed me that he get 3 the credit of being " Your occasional" in Norsewood, and that it has on more occasions than one caused him some unpleasantness. May 1 state through your columns that my identity is not yet discovered, and is not likely to be ?
