American Congress, has recommended an I increase of the grant for securing proper I representation, of the United States at the \ Melbourne Exhibition. The latter is exciting graat interest in America, and there is a strong feeling in favor of American manufactures being well represented, so a3 to introduce American goods to the Australian market. An American vessel has been sent to Samoa for the purpose of establishing a coaling station there* General itoberts has sent a native envoy to Turkestan for the purpose of interviewing the tribes, and confirming them in their resistance to Russian agression. The Queen is suffering from indispostion, which, however is not believed to bo of a serious character. The late Ameer of Afghanistan, Yakoob Khan, has been sent by General Roberts under a strong guard to Lahore, where he will be tried by a Court especially appointed for the purpose, for complicity in the Gabul massacre. The Pope has written to Archbishop M'Oabe, of Dublin, deprecating the Irish agitation on the ground that the Government is anxious to redress the grievances complained of.
