WELLINGTON GOSSIP.
[By Telegraph.]
[I'KOM OUlt OW CORRESPONDENT.]
Monday. The lobby is full of rumors, but it is extremely difficult to ascertain anything really reliable. So far as it is possiblo to depend on what one hears, it appears that Sir George Grey is excessively unwilling to accept tho verdict of the House tomorrow, and that he is on this point at _. issue with his colleagues. He wants toT fijrht ilio nvttcr iirst with tho House,' an<! R.fh>r>.vauis viih tho Governor; while X - Mucaiiclruw and riheehan positively ■ !;.■..'"! me to ho ojnvuitted to any contest wiUi tin- majority of tho House, aud although willing to ask tho Governor for " a dissolution, are not prepared to dispute his decision if his Excellency refuses it, Sir George, it is said, says he Avill stay in till dismissed, while his colleagues say he may do so by himself ; but that they will
send in their resignations. There is very probably a good deal of exaggeration in these rumors,- but there is no doubt' ihfit there is some truth in them, It is certain ihat Mr Sheehan has positively pledged his honor that in the event of any attempt to prolong- the debate beyond tomorrow afternoon he will resign and irote with the Opposition. The Opposition majority to-morrow jvill be from 11 to 15. Evans Brown has left for Canterbury without pairing, and Gfeor'ge M'Lean ,ha's gone South after having paired. . [Probably the division list to-morrow will be very nearly as follows, on the question that the words proposed to be added be so added : Ayes, 48. The Speaker niakes up the totai of the 1 House. .
-A report is current that Sir William Fox has positively declined to take office b.in)self, but that is certainly premature ; he is hot, however, anxious for it, and lead has beea offered to Mr Eolleston, but declined. The new Ministry will probably ,be made up as follows : — Sir William. Fox, Major Atkinson, Mr Johnston or Mr/ B-rfce, Cajptain Morris or Mr Hobbs, Mr Oliver, Mr Rolleston or Mr ;Wakefield or Mr Hall, and Mr Writer;-; house in the Upper House. Mr Oliver is* absolutely certain of a saat in the new Cabinet, and in each other case I have placed first the name of the most likely man as "between the two, except in the case of Sir William Fox and Major Atkinson, where Major Atkinson is probably the man.
