SPIRITUALISM EXTRAORDINARY.
The Pall Mall Gazette says:— "A singular instance of intelligence and activity on the part of a piece of furniture was related by the chairman of a public meeting of Spiritualists, held at the Langham Hall recently. Tho incident occurred at a family gathering, at which Mr Home was .present. A music-stool moved from its position near a harmonium, and getting up on to a table bowed three times to a family Bible which was on tho table. The chairman himself witnessed this extraordinary conduct of the music-stool, and, thinking that the spirit which prompted the action probably wished to convey the idea that 1 music was to be the handmaid of devotion,' gave utterance to the suggestion. The music-stool thereupon confimed the chairman's notion by * bowing three times successively.' It was then ' helped to the ground ' by Mr Home, and, it is to be presumed, resumed its place by the side of the harmonium. Why Mr Home took the trouble to help the music-stool, which was apparently, quite capable of taking care of itself, off tlio table was not explained ; but it was no doubt felt that some courtesy waß due to the stool after its unwonted exertions, and moreover, it must be borne in mind by those who expect spiritual manisfestations of this nature that f urnilue is too often ' scamped ' in construction. A music-stool, unless bought from a respectable dealer, runs groat risk of tumbling to piecs in climbing on to a table, still more so in jumping down again to the floor. Some little assistance therefore, is only clue to articles of furniture called upon to perform gymmastic feats beyond their strength. "
