HAWKE'S BAY HOSPITAL.

A meeting of the committee of the Hawke's Bay Hospital waß held yesterday afternoon in the Grand Jury room at the Court-house. Present — His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Dr Spencer, Messrs Tanner, Swan, J. JST. Williams, Winter, H. Williams, M. R. Miller, and J. A. Smith (hon. secretary). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The report of the building committee was read, recommending that the plan marked A be accepted subject to the following alterations : — l. That the operating room be moved to the back of the building, and that a concrete floor and a skylight be added to the room. 2. That four doors be fixed for closing openings in centre of building. 3. That chimneys as marked on plan be dispensed with. 4. That the position of earth closets and bath-rooms be reversed as marked on plan. 5. That a scullery be erected at the back of the kitchen. 6. That on the plans and specifications being approved by the general committee tenderu be called for forthwith. On the motion of Dr Spencer, seconded by Mr J. N. Williams, the report was adopted. The report on the tenders for supplies was then considered. The tender of Thomas Fuller (the only one sent in) to furnish funerals at £3 each was accepted. The tender of Mr Wishart (the only one sent in), to supply coal at 508 and wood at 15s per ton, was accepted. The tenders for rations raised a good deal of discussion. Dr Spencer reminded the committee that it was intended to adopt a scale of rations, and therefore it would be better not to accept any tender until that matter was settled. He thought that perhaps the best course would bo merely to accept a tender for three months, and then when the scale of rations wa3 fixed to invite tenders again. He would move to that effect. The Mayor said that a tender could not be accepted for three months, as the tenders were for twelve months. Dr Spencer withdrew his motion. A good deal of discussion ensued as to the advisability of accepting tenders for rations at all. It was pointed out that the tenders for "extras " included all the articles in the " rations," and therefore by accepting a tender for " extras," the hospital would obtain such supplies as it required. Ultimately it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Tanner, seconded by Mr Swan, that the tender of Messrs Neal and Close for the supply of articlea mentioned as extras be accepted. The committee adopted a form for the admission of patients to the hospital. The admission tickets will be supplied to all the members of the committee and to the chairmen of the Hawke's Bay and Wairoa County Councils, but the admission of all patients to be subject to the recommendation of a medical man. The secretary read a list of persons receiving charitable aid. Dr. Spencer brought under notice the advisability of making arrangement for out patients of the hospital being attended to. The matter was . postponed to the next meeting of the committee. The question as to the commission to be paid to the architect was referred to the building committee. It was decided that at all meetings of the committee five members should form a quorum. 1 The committee then adjourned.
