HAWKE'S BAY RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

The first prize-firing competition in connection with the above Association commenced at the Tutaekuri range yesterday morning, and brought out a large number of competitors. The weather was beautifully fine and bright, with a light wind, which was rather variable at times. The firing commenced shortly before 6 o'clock, and was not concluded until 10.30. The conditions were 200, 400, and 500 yards, seven shots at each range. The shooting, on the whole, was not particularly good, especially considering the favorable weather. As will be seen by the scores, Mr M'lntosh and Mr Burr were leading up to the last range, both having scored 48 points, •Mr Ross being well up with 45, and Messrs Pell and Garry with 44 points. At the conclusion of the firing, Messrs M'lntosh and Burr were still ties for the first prize, with 66 points each. Burr, however, having made the highest score at the long range, became the winner of the New Zealand Rifle Association Medal and £2; W. N. M'lntosh, 2nd prize, £3; J. Ross, 3rd prize, £1 10s ; M. Cropp, 4th prize, £1; and L. Redward, sth prize, 103. Major Routledge superintended the firing, Captain Gibbons, of the Napier Engineers, acting as squad officer.
