Auokiand, January 16. The mail steamer City of Sidney arrived thiß (Thursday) morning, a little before 1 o'clock. She left San Francisco on December 23, at 3.30 p.m . Experienced strong N. W. gale and rough sea during the first 25 hours, thence to Honolulu moderate weather and light winds, arriving at 12.5 i p.m. on the 30th December, making the trip in 6 days 20 hours 24 mm., the fastest passage ever made. Left Honolulu on the 31sfc December, at 6.41 a.m., having been detained seven hours, owing to a strong southerly blow. On Saturday, January 11, at 5.25 p.m., latitude 31 deg. 44 mm. S., longitude 179 deg. 07 mm. E., being being then about 460 miles from Auckland, the after crank pin broke ; the wind being N.E., kept the ship under sail until January 14, having had light winds from N.E. round to N.W., and W. to S.W. Having secured the crank pin temporarily, as well as could be done at sea, at 1.30 p.m. on January 14 started ahead at the rate of five' knots per hour ; from thence fine weather to Auckland, where Bhe arrived on January 16, at 12.45 ».m. Up to the time of the accident the engines never worked better, the ship having averaged 301 miles per day for 17 consecutive days from San Francisco, an almost unparalleled feat. She brings 12 cabin and 12 steorage passengers for New Zealand ; also 1851 packages, 128 tons freight, and 301 bags mail. For Australia : 22 cabin and 37 steerage passengers; 5191 packages, 382 tons freight, and 191 bags mail.
