Auckland, August 19. The steamer Go- Ahead, bound for Waitara, encountered a gale, in which her propeller and screw fans wevo broken, and the lines were blown off the cylinders. Une of the horses on board died during the gale. When off Mokau on Thursday morning the small steamer Hannah Mokau was seen coming out, Three guns were lired as signals of distress, but the people on the Hannah Mokau did not reply, and the steamer cane back to the Manukau under sail. Bluff, August 19. Arrived — Avawata, from Melbourne, at 7 o'clock this morning, with tlie Suez mail. Passengers for .Napier — Mr and Mrs Guthridge. Lyttelton, August 19. Arrived — Raymond, from Newcastle. She reports that on Wednesday last, when off Cape Campbell light, bearing N.B.W. i miles, the vessel suddenly run right upon something which brought her up all standing. She prized off iv about a minute, when a quantity of timber was seen, leading those on board suppose the object struck was a floating wreck. She encountered a heavy southerly gale next clay, and ha 3 been making much water since . Arrived— Bride of Lome, ship, 135 days from Cardiff. She brings 1000 tons of railway iron, but no passengers or other cargo. She experienced a succession of heavy gales from the time of losing the S.E. trades. She left Cardiff on April 3rd. One of the apprentices, named John ffsnry Gardener, fell on June 30 from the mizzen chains and was drowned. The' cargo started during one of tho gales and strained the ship considerably. Nei<son, August 19. The steamer Wallace has brought the Merlin's crew. The schooner was carried by the strong flood tide on to tho rocks, and Bunk shortly after. Sydnfa', August 19. , Sailed— Easby. Wellington, August 19. Arrived — Taiaroa, Eangatira, and Endeavor from Napier.
