CO-OPERATIVE BAKERY.

Sir, — As I wish to become a shareholder in the Co-operative Baking Society about to be started here, I should be glad if 3^oll could inform me where I could obtain particulars respecting it. I intended to go to the meeting on Thursday night, but, owing to the state of the weather I was prevented from doing so. I think it would be advisable for the committee to publish the particulars of the proposed Society — as to the mode of working it, and when they intend beginning business, and what bye-laws they intend passing, and any information that may be useful to intending shareholders, for it is impossible that the committee can be hunted up for these by anyone who may want to know, and it is very unlikely that people are going into a thing before knowing something about it. There should be an office appointed, where application for shares might be made, and information obtained concerning the Society. As I said before, I am desirous of going into the affair, but at present am unable to do so, from the simple fact that I do not know to whom to apply for shares, and I daresay that there are others similarly situated. There is no doubt that the Society is urgently required, and a grocery store on the same system would be a good idea. We not only have to paj r an exorbitant price for bread, but we have to put up with bad Hour, short- weight, and badly baked at that. Napier flour is so inferior that it is useless for house purposes, as airybody can testify who has used it ; this arises, probably, from the fact that " grown" wheat has been ground for its production. A stranger in Napier is struck at once, and very forcibly, by the inferiority of the bread. If the Co-operative Society will only use good flour, and give full weight, they will not only supply their shareholders, but they will command the best part of the trade of Napier. There could not be a better opening for a society of this kind, and if well managed it is sure to be a success. Fivepcnce for a good honest 21b. loaf would be very cheap compared with present prices and weights. — I am, it C. , F U LL-WEKi UT.
