MONTHLY SUMMARY.
During the month of May there were 40 vessels entered at the port of Napier, with a tonnage of 5219, and strength of crews 430 men ; 40 vessels cleared, with a tonnage of o.'OS, and strength of crews 43S men. We are happy lo dcate that only two casualties of a trifling character have oc- ■ . : :;-ing the last month. On the 3rd it M.<y i !u- h.3. Go-Ahead, in charge of C-ipi. ( 'miner, in steaming out of the Poverty '\ 'V River. r>i route for Napier, ran ashore o^ a o.uidb.ank, and stuck hard and :.^t. f. i. was lightened of her cargo, which was aft^r wards hrought on to Napier hy the s s Pretty Jane, and, by means of casks placed all round her, was floated and towed to the beach, where she now lies undergoing repairs. The second mishap was the running ashore of the ketch Mary Ann Hudson at Mohaka. She left this port for Mohaka on Wednesday, the 9th ultimo, and in endeavoring to enter the Mohaka river on Thursday was swept by a heavy roller high and dry on the south beach. The river has L*ic.V. :'Ji^red its course, and a wall of shingle has formed between the ketch and the sea. It is not considered a difficult matter to float her, although it will probably necessitate a considerable outlay.
