ADDITIONS TO ODDFELLOWS' HALL.

bin, — 1 observe from your paper of to-day that the Oddfellows have now come to the conclusion not to make any effort to enlarge or improve their hall, because, forsooth, the .sum required for the alterations will amount to more than they care about spending on its improvement. Then, sir, in that case, I hope the scheme for building the theatre lately spoken of will go ahead and liourish. No doubt the chief reason why the Oddfellows have decided not to go on with the alterations is that they are under the impression that as the theatre project has apparently fallen through, they will still be enabled to enjoy the monopoly they have so long managed to carry on in their present apology for a public hall. They will, I think, find themselves much mistaken in this matter, as their last action will, no doubt, make our townspeople bestir themselves for the purpose of having a proper theatre erected. 1 read in the Hekaj,d a few days ago an account of the handsome returns that had been received by the Theatre Royal Company in Wellington for the pa.st year, and there is not the least doubt that, with proper management, a similar result would be obtained here, so that, apart from other considerations, the projected theatre would be a capital investment for money. There are a few excellent sites which could be obtained for the purpose ; the best, in my opinion, would be the section at the back of the Foresters' Anus. Hoping some action will soon be taken in the matter, I am, etc., Citizen.
