The U.S. mau-ot'-war Kesaca, took her departme for Valparaiso on Saturday afiernoon last, at about 3 o'clock. As the vessel began to move down the harbour, the Naval Volunteers, uuder the command of Capt. Guilding, fired a salute of seven guns, which the Uesaca acknowledged by dipping her ens gn. Captain Bain, of the b.s. Keera, reports passing tbe Ileaaca off Cape (.olvillo at 11 o'clook the same night, bouud to the eastward. The A.S.N, Co.'a s.s. James Paterson, under the command of Captain Sanders, airived in harbour early on Friday morning from Sydney, bringing a general cargo aud several passengers. The fine ship Aboukir bas been laid on the berth for London direot. She has uil but nuished her discharge of inward cargo, and, having a great portion of her cargo already awaiting her, she will receivequick despatch. The cargo of ihe Alice Cameron, fr<.m Now York for this port and .Sydney, consists of 1.6U0 staves, 3,000 casus keiosine, 219 pkgs hardware,; 708 pkgs woodenware, 170 pkgn furniture, 27G pkgs carriage materials, i pkgs sowing machines, 34 pkgs glasswaro, 95 barrels rosin, 200 casos oysters, 310 oases lobsters, 100 cases diugs, 20 cases stoves. The p s, Cooiueraug, Capt. Chrisp, arrived in harbour on Satuiday evening last from Napier, brnijiiug a cargo of cattle and sheep, whicb bhe lauded on bunday morning at the Tamaki iv excellent con<litiun The a.s. Keera, Capt. Bain, arrived in harbour on Sunday fioui jNupier, bringing a cargo of cattle aud sheep, and which have bi-eu landed in excellent condition. We (Southern Cross) understand that the p.s. Kovul Alfred has been aold to a Southern gentleman fur the sum of £1,225, and that it is the intention of the purchaser to proceed with her to tho Fijis and there employ the itoyal Alfred in trading to the various islands of (hat place. It is expected that the new steamer at present m the stocks at Messrs. .Niccol and Son's yards, North Shore, will be launched ia about teu days. Tho steamer is intended for the Napier trade, and will be employed between that port, Wairoa, and Turanganui. The boilers and machinery for this line little steamer are being manufactured by Messrs. Masefleld and Co. The boat will he ready for sea in about six weeks. She will bo oome manded by Captain Bendall. — New Zealand Herald, Uctober i. The five ship Argvleshire is rapidly filling up with cargo for home. She will in all probability be loaded to-morrow, aud wilisaii for London about Saturday next. — Ibid, The foio-aml-aft schooner Peri, recently arrived from the Islands, aud which has been advertised to be sold by auction during the past week, was seized by the Customs autho rities yesterday afternoon, on a charge of smuggling. One of the officers of the Customs department was placed on board at 5 o'clock yestorday, and we understand that the bailiffs will tako charge of the vessel today.— Ibid.
