The Provincial Council will meet for the despatch of business to-morrow at 3 o'clock. ■'■'..-. The Hon. the Defence Minister returned to Auckland on Friday morning, in the p.s. Luna, from a visit to the coast. Reader Wood Esq. has been returned,' unopposed, as the representative of Parnell in the General Assembly. j ■ ' . Mb. Edward Lyndon will hold a sale, this day, at his stores, of wool and other produce. . The Wjbathkr.-— A few showers fell on Sunday last, but the weather generally has been magnificent. . ■.• - The English Mail via San Francisco will be despatched from Wellington on the 2nd, and from Auckland, on the 6th June. The Hon. Julius Yog el was a passenger from Auckland to Wellington in the Lord Ashley. He spent some hours in Napier while the steamer was in the roa.lstead. The Suez Mail was due in Melbourne on Thursday last, the 12th instant, just three days after the departure of the Claud Hamilton. Next steamer from Victoria will doubtless bring the New Zealand mails. The news, we imagine, has been anticipated by the other route. The News per Wonga Wonga reached Wanganui by the s.s. Keera on the morning of Saturday last, and was telegraphed thence to the Herald and other subscribing newspapers throughout the colony.; No sooner, however, had the telegraphic message been completed in Napier, than ' the arrival of the Lord Ashley put us in 'possession of copious details. ' Fatal Accident. — -Yesterday, ! 'we regret to say, a man named Donnelly lost his life in the Big Bush, under the following circumstances. He was in the employ of Mr. Cashmore, and he and another man were engaged in cross-cutting a log; A tree was being felled near them ; it was guyed with ropes, so that it might fall in safety, but, in falling, it came against another tree, which altered its direction, and a detached branch, of no great thickness^ fell on the head of deceased, and killed him. He died immediately. Deceased was a stranger here. An inquest will be held at 1 o'clock to-day. A Pleasant Reunion took place at West Clive on the evening of Friday last, one which, without any ostentation, seemed to afford very general satisfaction. At all events the idea might be improved upon, and we should like to see this generally done in outlying districts. The attendance included a great many from Napier. For obvious reasons we prefer giving our contemporary's account of the meeting to inserting anything of our own composition. The Timcf says : — ." A musical entertainment was given on Friday evening the 13th instant, in the West Clive schoolhouse, in aid of the funds of the school. The evening was moonlight and beautifully fine, and the buildiriglwas crowded.? The programme comprised a judicious selection of vocal music, to which full justice was done by the singers ; and many of the pieces were encored. Some - very; beautiful dissolving views were exhibited by. Mr. Wood. A very pleasant evening was spent by all present, and judging by the attendance, we imagine that the 'building fund t)f the Clive school must have received a very, acceptable augmentation."
