On the 6th inst.,;27 menjishd 88 fcomen who, since Ropata's success, had been hiding iv Wai-o-efca Gorge, came iv aud surrendered at Opotiki. They say Te Kooti has .not been seen. , lately, and must either be hiding at Waimana, or have gone to Waikaremoana. , An expedition was to leave Opotiki .on the 12 th, for Wairaamtj to search for Te Kooti in that locality., ; , r ; ■; Mr. Hamlin and Mr. Witty, with the Wairoa contingent, are. engaged in raising the boats that were sunk last year in Waikavempaua Lake, they haying constructed two canoes to- facilitate the work. They, are waiting RopataV arrival, to act in conjunction with;him. Up to the 12tii inst. Ropata'a pi'o- . gress had been much retarded by heacvy ; raius and floods. Fine weather, how* ever, theu set in, and in all probability he is now at Waikarenioana. On the first day out he captured a woman and two children who had been iv the bush since the Ngatapa affair— no doubt acting as spies for Te, Kooti and the Uriwera. A native called Te Rori, lately discharged from the. Armed Constabulary for bad conduct, shot himself at Ruuanga on Saturday last.
