IMPORTANT FROM TAUPO.

On Friday evening, information was.received from Tapuaehararu that Te Kooti had been rejoined by the Uriwera and some ' . of the West Taupo natives ; that Kereopa, '•/ ' with a party of Hakaraia's men, had also . ' joined him ; and that the combined fprgK "-" wa3 moving to attack Tapuaehararu, and ' would be further supported by Hakaraia ; and his followers. This intelligence %as brought to Poihipi by some of his relatlyea *•/ from the west side of the lake. On Saturday, confirmatory information was tfeceivedi . and the enemy was said to be at Te Papa, a day's journey from Tapuaehararu. Immediate steps were taken to meet him, by moving Oolonei MacdohnelTs force from Tokano to Tapuaehararu, which would give us an available and effective force of about 350 men, of whom 200 would be Constabulary. ' By later information, it would seem that Te Kooti has not advanced to Te Papa, as was reported on Saturday, and he is still believed to be in the neighborhood of Tuhua. Mr. Fox is at Wanganui, hasten* ing the movements of Kemp and Topia, who, as will be seen by information published in another place, have undertaken to find or take Te Kooti if he be anywhere in the neighborhood of the Upper Wanganui country. The extraordinary resurrection of Te Kooti's force is another instance of the power his name exercises, and an evU dence of the necessity of taking him before the peace of the island can be secured. Every means available are being taken to ellect this, but the difficulties are enormousi At the same moment that the means at the disposal of the Government are taxed to the utmost to carry out their plans against Te Kooti, another difficulty arises. We • learn that fires were seen on Sunday even- f ( ing from Te Haroto on the bush track .-' leading from WaikaremoaW to Herewini. Vil The fires were distinctly seen, and as there -■•■ were several, and they some distance apart, they are supposed to indicate that a body '• of the Uriweras are moving to support Te Kooti at Taupo. It is possible that the fires seen may indicate the presence of Te Kooti himself, and that he and his band have evaded our posts and made their- way back to the Uriwera country ; buY this is' scarcely possible, and does not agree with the information obtained from other sources. Early information may be expected settling, this point. Meantime, in the interest of the colony, let us hope that the measures taken to capture Te Kooti may be attendedwith success.
