Creighton has retired from the candidature for Newton, and resigned the Provincial Secretaryship. • ■ The s.s. City of Melbourne, which sailed on the 27th for Sydney, took ; 3 boxes of gold containing 5,35 J0z. of gold, value £22,474 4s. Of. that amount 5,2970z. 14dwt. is from the West Coast. The gold was shipped by the Bank of NewZealand. Tuesday, November 30. , A reporting for the Golden Crown has been completed to-day, and yielded 7890z. of retorted gold, which has just been deposited jn the Bank of New .Zealand. As to-day is a bank holiday; the gold will not be melted till to-morrow. The above yield is the result obtained from about lOcwt. of specimens that have been crushed, in addition to about 40 tons of stone of ordinary character, all that has been crushed at the company's machine for the last eight days. There has been a considerable run on Shotover scrip during the two days, and parcels have been withdrawn from, the market at 255. There are scarcely any for sale. A few very rich specimens ' were found yesterday' in the creek wordings, and the lot that were taken out on Saturday and Monday were calcined yesterday, previous to crushing. They showed very well. Thubsday, December 2. The s.s. John Perm, which arrived this day from the West Coast, brought 2 boxes gold from Hokitika, containing 1,6280z. 15gr., consigned to the Bank of New Zealand. The official declaration of the: state of the poll was made to-day..-. Mr. Gillies' majority is 52. The successful and rejected candidates both addressed the electors. Feiday, December 3. Mr. Henry Talbofc, the eminent tragedian, appears to-night as the Royal Dane. The Hero, steamer, arrived this after* noon with the English mail received per Malta.
