BATTERY RETURNS.

The amount of gold obtained from stone crushed in the Golden Crown batter, together with that passed through Brown and Campbell's and the Hauraki machines, from the Golden Crown claim, was 2,6670z 17dwt of smelted gold for the month of October. The battery on the claim is now at work on stone from the low level drive ; and it is intended to send a large quantity also of quartz to the Hauraki battery. The Xuranui battery is at present crushing with ten head of stampers for the Long Drive, six head for the City of Glasgow, and thirty head are employed on stone from the company's claim. Two tons from the Manukau claim have been crushed at the single stamper these last few days. The Hauraki battery is at present crushing stone from the Golden Crown, which m keep it engaged for some weeks. The amalgam from the 23 tons of quartz crushed from the Digger's Friend claim, will be retorted'to-day. At Souter's battery the United Gold Mining Company's stone is still being crushed. The crushing for the Flying Cloud claim is finished, but the retorting of the amalgam is not yet completed, one retort gave thirteen ounces of gold, the remainder will be put on the fire to-day. Yesterday lOOlbs of stone from Coromandel, tested at this battery, gave a result of one ounce to the ton. The Waiotahi Gold Mining Company's battery has been crushing these last tew weeks stone from the Manukau claim, which has given a very good return. The amalgam was retorted yesterday, and the amount of gold lodged in the Bank of New Zealand, Grahamstown.
