MONTHLY BATTERY RETURNS.
Goodall'a Prince Alfred Battery has been fully employed during the past month. 106 tons from the Dauntless claim gave a return of 449 ozs. 15 dwts. of retorted gold. 18 tons from the Hazelbank claim returned 15 ozs. 18 dwts. of gold. The amalgam from the 78 tons crushed at this battery from the Mariner's Eeef has not yet been all retorted, but in one retort taken from the fire yesterday, there was 162 ozs. 5 dwts. of gold. The whole lot will be finished to-day. A great number of small lots have been passed through during the month. A few tons from the golden fleece gave a return of 3 ozs. 14 dwts. 9 grs. of gold. Some specimens from the Last Hit claim gave 7 ozs. 11 dwts. The other claims which had crushings at this battery were the
Unknown, London and Liverpool, Berkeley. Castle, Victorian Consols, Crescent, Teutonic, and the Fourth of July, and all of which gave very satisfactory results. The total quantity of stone orushed during the past month was 321^ tons. The battery is at present silent for the purpose of making some alterations. The next stone to be crushed will be 15 tons from the Edinburgh Castle claim, Moanatairi, and 6 cwt. from the Golden Gate. The Victoria Battery crushed during the month of October 464 tons of stone, which gave a return of 979 ounces of gold, that is at the rate of 2ozs. 2dwts. per ton. 300 tons from the Dawn of Hope returned 452 ounces of golrl, or l|ozs. per ton. This return, taking into consideration the great size of the reef, is thought very satisfactory. One parcel of 13 tons from the Red, White, and Blue claim, gave 68ozs. of gold ; and from the specimens already taken from this 13 tons, 31ozs. of gold had been previously received — thus the yield per ton was 6ozs. 16dwts. 22grs. The Little and Good had 23 tons crushed during the last month, which returned lOozs. of gold. The Bed, White, and Blue is still crushing stone at this battery, and the remaining stampers are engaged on stone from the company's claim.
