Sib,— Allow me to call attention to the following, taken from an Auckland papor, shewing the necessity of receiving with some caution, published accounts from correspondents on Native matters ; — "On Te Kooti receiving intelligence that all the horses (said to number about 100), belonging to Ccl. Herrick's division, wore secreted in a lonely spot some distance from the main force, he.withont delay, came to tho conclusion to make tho best of his timo in escaping. Having secured tho horses, all well-bred, and in good mettle, with saddles, bags, &c, all of the first class, he made his retreat, and bv tho timo the concentrated force were prepared to attack tho pa, tho sagacious rebel was far away. Colonel M'Donnell, having no enemy to meet, quietly and unmolested took the empty pa. Now, Sir, of all this information, the pard that is known to be true is relative to the saddles. 'Ihey having been purchased at London House, Napier, there could bo no doubt of their good quality.— Yours, &c, «•
