It is denied here in well-informed circles that sentence of death on the Hauhau prisoners is to be commuted. Cannel coal has been discovered in the northern portion of the province. The Defence Minister will shortly visit Waikato and Ohinemuri. Mr. J. Williamson addressed 2000 miners at Grahamstown, when he was enthusiastically received, and a vote of confidence passed. Mr. J. Hall, brother to Mr. Hall, of the firm of Winks and Hall, was drowned at the Thames on Saturday. October 6. Mr. Williamson addressed the electors of Onehunga last night. He was enthusiastically received, and a vote of confidence passed. Ordinary tides, and nothing unusual. October 7. \ Mr. Creighton addressed his constituency last night, and reoeived a vote of confidence. ' . , Dr. Pollen addressed the electors of Raglan and Franklin, but his reception was. indifferent. Rich specimens are being taken from the Dauntless, John O'Groat's, and Eureka ground. " The English telegrams were published in the Cross of to-day. October 8. Informations have been laid against parties mining on the beach. It is not a Government prosecution. An eleven of the. 18th were beaten yesterday by eleven Auoklanders. His Excellency has released the Maori prisoners lately convicted under the Arms Act. October 9. Mr. F. Whitaker, in the Herald of today, throws the onus of the unjust increased taxation of miners at the Thames upon Mr. j Mackay. News from Alexandra that 500 Ngatimaniapotos left to take revenge on Te Kooti for the murder of King natives. The Airedale has arrived in the Manukau with the English mail.
