Commercial. AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKET.

1 Reports for week ending September 24.] MR. ALFRED BUCKLAND. During- the last week grazing stock of every ■ description have been steadily advancing.' At the Henderson's Mill sale a much larger muster of store cattle than usual were penned ; a great many buyers were in attendance, and the competition was good throughout ; 89 head were sold ; yearlings realised £3 2s. to £6 2s. 6d. ; and grown steers from &7 108. to £8 ss. Half-bred ewes with lambs at side, 14s. eaoh. At the Haymarket, on Saturday last, the usual quantity of hay was disposed of. A small parcel of lucerne, ex Auckland, from Sydney, realised £8 15s. per ton. The amount of horse stock, was very limited, and sales difficult to effect. The brown draught entire, ex Airedale, was disposed of at £29 ; ordinary hacks, £<> to &9 j light harness horses, £10 to £15 ; heavy draught horses, £2,7 to, £36. At Kemuera yards on Thursday last, the pens were well filled with fat and store stock, and buyers were exceedingly numerous.' Good ■ dairy cowa at the calving were sought after and commanded high prices. A large number of store cattle were disposed of at extreme rates, and. fat cattle sold higher by a pound per head. Fat sheep, also, sold somewhat better than of late. The four shorthorned imported heifers brought £16 10s. each. Good fatted oxen sold from £2 to £2 2-3. 6d. per 1001 b. Messrs. Roskruge and Kempthorne's merino wethers, ex Coomerang, from Poverty Bay, averaged sixteen shillings and a halfpenny each ; 218 head of cattle and 1,369 sheep were disposed of. WM. HUNTER AND ,CO. At the Durham Sale yards on Saturday a largo number of horses were brought forward, but sales were difficult to effect, owing to prices having receded a little, and sellers being unwilling to submit. The consequence was that most descriptions were slow of sale, but eventually a considerable number changed hands. Draught horses brought from £16 to £23 ; light harness horses; £10 to £13 155. ; hacks, £7 2s. 6d. to £12 15s. each. There was a very large muster of cattle at Newmarket on Monday. Buyers were adequate, and the bidding throughout was spirited, some lots of store stock being keenly competed for. Dairy cows were in fair supply, but no really first-class animals offered, sales being more difficult to effect than any other description of stock, but good dairy cows are much inquired for. There was an adequate number of fat beasts, mostly of top sorts, and consequently they were in brisk demand by the trade. The sheep market was fairly supplied, and sales were freely effected, but there was no alteration in value worthy of note. For a large market of pigs there was keen competition, and last week's prices were fully maintained. CAREY AND GILLBS. We have to report that the markets for both beef and mutton were well supplied during the week, and prices ruling were similar to— if any, a shade higher than— last quotations, Grown store cattle were in demand, and sold at advanced prices. Young stock were disposed of at very high rates, bringing, for yearlings, from £3 15s. to £5 55. ; two-year-old, £6 to £7 10. Sheep were penned in large numbers, and those of really good quality found ready purchasers, while inferior lots were difficult to quit. Pigs of all classes were readily competed for, and well sold. On Wednesday, at the Junction Yards, we obtained the following prices :— • Fat cattle, ex Keera, from Wanganui, realised £11 7s. 6s. to £14 10s, or 40s. to 425. per 1001 b. ; ex Star of the South, from Napier, at £12 ss. to £16 per head, or 435. to 455. per 1001 b. Store cattle, ex Keera, were disposed of at £8 15s. to £11 2s. 6d ; dairy cows realised £10 10s. to £14 10s. each. Fat sheep, ex Cooraerang, from Poverty Bay, brought lls. 6d to 19s ; ex Keera, from Wanganui, 12s. to 19s. each ; provincial halfbreds, 18s. to 245, 6d. Store sheep : Merinos, ex Star of the South," from Napier, brought 9s. 6d. each. Pigs . Stores fetched 14s. 6d. to 245. 6d. each.
