The running of third class railway carriages is resumed. The continued dry weather is causing great uneasiness. The Bishop has proclaimed the 7th October a day for special prayer for rain. In reference to the inquiry into the circumstances attending the seizure of the schooner Daphne, His Honor Chief Justice Stephen'has expressed his opinion that the islanders found on board that vessel were neither slaves nor intended for slavery. Maize is quoted at 45., with better supply. Intelligence has been received that Count Van Attems, whose swindles caused such great sensation, both here and in Queensland, has been sentenced to 22 months imprisonment at Hourahayai : V, '•' In the Bank of New South Wales, Maitlaod, two clerks have been dismissed in consequence of a recent loss Of notes.
