MESSRS. CAKEY AND GILLIES.
The market during the week has been very well supplied with fat cattle, which were disposed of at prices ranging from 36s to 45s per 1001 b. We sold privately the cargo of ' the Island City at £11 5s per head. A fair number of dairy cows were brought forward, and sold at £10 to £14 eaob. Well-bred store stock are in demand, and those offered sell readily at satisfactory prices, realising as follow :— -Yearlings, £3 5s to £4 10s ; two-year-old steers, £6 to £7 j full grown steers, £8 to £9 15s. Sheep were penned in average numbers, *' and sold at last quotations. Store sheep, half. breds, are in demand, but few obtainable. Merinos sold in limited numbers at 10s to 10s 3d. Pigs met with ready sale at the late high values maintained. On Wednesday, at the Junction Yards, we obtained the following prices :— Fat cattle, ex Ahuriri, from Wanganui, realised from £9 to £14 5s per head ; ex Star of the South, . } from Napier, £13 15s to £18 2s 6d, being an average of !36s to 38s per 1001 b. for medium, and 40s to 45s for prime quality. Fat sheep : The cargo, ex Ahuriri, frqm Wanganui were quitted at from 18s 6d to: 21s ; provincial half-bred 19s to 23s 6d each'; Store sheep : A few merinos from Napier sold at 10s to 10s 3d eaoh.
