THE DETACHMENT OF THE 18th. The steamer left Wellington at 4 o'clock yesterday for this port, under contract to embark, for Auckland, the detachment of the 13th Regiment under Captain Wray. We learn that His Excellency the Governor has no copy of General Chute's despatch to the Colonel commanding in New Zealand, and was therefore unable to issue instructions to stop them from proceeding to Auckland in accordance with orders previously sent. This is much to be regretted, as no doubt exists of the intention of General Chute having been that none of the detachments should be moved. Since the above was in type, we learn that Captain Wray will most probably take upon himself the responsibility of detaining the detachment under his command, pending further instructions from head-quar-ters. W^are'glad that Captain Wray has arrived at this decision, and have ho doubt that he will be fully supported in the action he has taken.
