Preserved Mutton. — We had the opportunity yesterday of tasting and examining a portion of a roll of mutton, which, after twice crossing the topics, proved to , be. most, palatable— perfectly . sound and sweet. The meat was shipped last' Sep- : tember from Melbourne for London, and being re-shipped, arrived at this port last riipnth. Having been placed at the bottom of the hold, it was only landed a few days since, and last Saturday the case was opened in the presence of Messrs. Edwards, M 'Caw, and others. Under what system the meat has been cured is a secret known only to Mr. Littlewood, of Northcote, but not a doubt remains in the minds of many gentlemen who bave tasted it but that the preservation has been perfect. — Argus. Exodu.' to Auckland. — The Evening Post says :?— A little and unobtrusive, exodusto.the northern El Dorado, seems taking place from our city.- -Money is being sent to Auckland for investment; and many who are not earning -it here 'so rapidly; as they desire,, are taking their departure, \ to 5 pus^i their fortune in the golden land.. >']
