WOOL REPORT.

[The following remarks, says the Lyttelton Times, appear in a private report received by a tirm in the city. They are so important and so generally applicable to our wool growers, that we are glad to have the opportunity of giving them publicity.]

la referring specially to the brand of wool on which you ask for a special report, we have a few suggestions to offer applicable to wool generally, as their adoption would, we think, tend towards enhanoing its relative value in this market,

The wool referred to has the elements of a superior flock, if properly cared for, but the shipment just realised had the fault of not being classified. Most of the bales contained wool of two different descriptions, viz , combing and clothing ; this, we understand, is a general fault with New Zealand wool shipmeets, and we cannot too strongly urge upon your friends the extreme importance of separating these two kinds, which are used for two distinct purposes, No one manufacturer requires both sorts, and consequently wool so mixed is mostly bought by middle men and dealers, 'yy'bo, after sorting and re-packing the two descriptions separately, sell them to the manufacturers, and realise a profit which ought to go into the pooket of the shippers. We would also remark, that although it is not necessary to separate the ewe wool from the rams, it is very desirable to keep the hogget wool by itself, and if possible to ship all the wool of the same classification in each brand in one vessel, so that it can be put up for sale in one or more large lots, or at all events altogether ; by this means the attention and competition are secured of the manu> facturer and other large buyers, who, as & rule, give best prices, but who will not trouble themselves about little lots of one, two, or three bales, which for their convenience, and to save their time, are sold at the end of the sale, after all the larger lots have been disposed of, and when most of the larger purohasers have left the sale room.
