Mr. Hunt, one of the most successful, if not the most successful, quartz miner at the Thames, was married this morning by the Rev. D. Bruce to a daughter of Mr. John Russell, of Upper Queen-street. The marriage, although conducted in a quiet and unostentatious manner, was riot without suitable and handsome surroundings appropriate to the occasion, amongst which the handsome equipage known as the " Duke's carriage " was conspicuous, drawn by a pair of very handsome horses. The weather was not such as to tempt many out-door spectators ; and indeed it was the wish of the parties more immediately concerned to avoid all unnecessary parade. Still, however, such an event could hardly occur without some publicity being Attacked to 'it, more particularly as the name of Mr. Hunt must always be associated with the returning tide of prosperity to this province. We wish the newly wedded pair long life and happiness. — Auckland Evening News, Sept. 10.

The Maeine Disturbances which affected the coast of New Zealand, the Chatham Islands, and New South Wales, on the morning of the 15th, were also observed at Hoburt Town on the same day. Early in the morning, a tidal wave was seen approaching the shore, of vast body, and spread over a large area of hitherto dry land. This phenomenon was repeated at intervals throughout the entire day, and was naturally a matter of much curiosity to the residents of the neighborhood." A curious circumstance in connection with the earthquake wave in Tasmania is mentioned by 1 the Melbourne Herald. There was a very high tide iv the Derwent on the afternoon of the loth ult. At Kisdon the water overflowed the road, and receding suddenly, left a number, of fish high and dry, which were easily captured by those in the neighborhood.
