The money market has fluctuated. Discount two per cent., with demand a little on the increase. Consols 94| to f .
Australian securities are in demand. Victorian 6 per cents, January and July, 112 to 114 ; April and October, 113 to 114. New South Wales fives, 1871 to 1873, January and July, 99 to 101 ; 1888 to 1889, January and July, 99 to 100. New Zealand fives, 1891 to 1898, 100; sixes, 1891, March and September, 111 to 113. Queensland sixes, January and July, 106 to 107 ; 1891, 106 to 107. South Australian Government securities, short date, 108 to 111 ; long date, 110 to 112. Hobson's Bay Railway, 48 to 50 ; bonds, 1880, 97.
The Board of Trade returns shew a falling off to the extent of one million and a quarter in exports, as compared with the corresponding month of the two last years.
The annual meeting of shareholders of the Union Bank of Australia was held on July 13, when a dividend of 15 per cent per annum was declared.
A concession for the establishment of an electric telegraph line between France and the United States has been granted by the French Government to Reuter and Baron Emile Derlanger. The line is to run from Brest to near Boston, and is expected to be laid in course of next year. The maximum tariff is to be £4 for twenty worJs.
Wool Report.-— After the absorption of so large a quantity as recently passed the hammer, there has been no inquiry for Colonial wool in the London market. Since the close of the May and June series of sales, prices have been well maintained ; but it is not expected that much demand will spring up before the August sales. The importations already amount to 151,635 bales, and it is estimated that 50 to 60,000 more will arrive before the sales begin.
