Among the number we noticed His Honor the Judge and Mrs. Johnstdn, the Hon. E. W. Stafford, the Hon. John Hall, Messrs. Buchanan, Seed, Hoggard, George, and several others. The Govebnobship op Tasmania. — In a late number of the London Observer appeared the following paragraph : — " Sir James Elphinstone, formerly M.P. for Portsmouth, has, we understand, been appointed Governor of Tasmania, in the place of Colonel T. Gore Browne, whose term of office has expired." The Owl of March 11th contradicts this statement, and says that Sir James Elphinstone has not been appointed. From private information which the IS. T.\ Oowrier has received it is most probable that the Owl is right ; but it is true that Colonel Browne's recall has been decided upon, and we shall, no doubt, hear of his successor's appointment by an early mail.
