Hawke's Bay Herald. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1868. THE THREE- MILLION LOAN.
The Crown agents for the colouies recently invited subscriptions for £470,000 Six-per-cent. New Zealand Debentures. We are glad to be able to inform our readers that, although the price of issue for the Three-Milliou Loan was fixed by the Crown agents at £102 55., for each £100 debenture, the amount applied for at and above the minimum, was £2,433,200 ; aud the whole amount offered was allotted at £104 55., with the exception of a few small tenders, which were allotted above that amount. It is very gratifying to know that Messrs. Rothschild took up a very large portion, amounting to £464,200, as ifc indicates their opinion as to the value of New Zealand Government debentures. This is likely to have a most beneficial effect, coming, as it does, at a time wheu so much distrust in these matters exists.
