Through the courtesy of H. S. Tiffen, Esq., Hon. Sec. to the Hawke's Bay Agricultural Society, we are enabled to invite those of our readers interested to inspect the Society's silver medal, now lying at this office.
Acclimatization. — The Hawke's Bay Acclimatization Society has been formed. Its first meeting was held in the Council Chamber, on Thursday last, but owing to the great pressure on our space, through the arrival of the English mails, we are compelled to hold over the report.
Wrecks.-— The p.s. Tasmanian Maid, Capt. Souter, was totally wrecked at Taranaki on the 16fch instant; and the schooner Joanna, from Havelock, bound for Wellington, sprung a leak and was abandoned near Sinclair's' Head. Full particulars will be found in our shipping column.
The Buoy that was placed on the Auckland Rock a few days ago, was observed on Wednesday evening to be gradually sinking. At daybreak the next morning the cutter Dolphin waa engaged to bring it ashore, when ifc was discovered to be three parts full of water, from the rivet holes leaking.
Presentation. —On Monday evening last, some members of the Mutual Improvement Society and a few friends met at Marybank, for the purpose of presenting a valuable portable writing-case to Mr. W. Duncan, prior to his leaving this province for Hokitika. The Rev. Gr. Morice, on behalf of those present, gave the case to Mr. Duncan, and in a few appropriate remarks expressed the esteem in which he was held, and the regret felt at his approaching departure.
Land Sale. — Mr. E. Lyndon will sell by auction, this day, three-quarters of an acre of land, with cottage thereon ; also, a piece of land in Chaucer-road, on which are erected two cottages.
