WAIROA.
(FHOM OUfi OWN CORBE6POITDBNT.) Clyde, October 4 As your esteemed correspondent ":Sand« fly seems so much hurt at my having spoken in such " glowing colors " of the state of things in general at the ; Wairoa, I shall of course be very careful for'the : future not to repeat tne same offence. However, if the news he complains df is incorrect he must impute it to my ignorance ; all I can say in justification is, that what I wrote I wrote in all good faith, feeling it to be substantially true at the time, and I have no reason as yet to— alter my opinion on the matter. Of .cpurse all newspaper correspondents are liable to an occasional rub or sting, as the case may be, from anonymous writers ; and the sting on this oocasion is well worthy of the little animal your coiTesponde|#,,takesy his name from, being slightly-: venbihous '■:■. but withall very harmless, He remarks , by the way that Court cases ought to be . put in; all I can say. on this matter is ;• that if your readers feel no more interest; in our Court cases than we at a distance do in those tried at the" Besident Magistrate's Court, Napier, it would hardly be worth while reporting them. I am sorry to say Mr. Preece met with a bad accident yesterday that might have proved fatal; his horse bolted with him on the road, and, finding he was, unable to pull him up, threw his feet out of the stirrups, fearing the horse might come to grief over an unfinished culvert a little way out of the town. Tne. horse passed the dangerous spot and then became totally unmanageable. Preece was thrown violently to the ground, and was picked up shortly afterwards perfeotly insensible. He is very much bruised, the right thumb broken and dislocated, and the left wrist very severely sprained, if not aotually broken, besides various contusions. However he is being attended by J)v. Scott and is getting on very well. ' ' -i "' ! ';!"'
