Napier Country. — The nomination for the district will take place on Monday next, the 25th inst. Postal. — Mr. Sufcton, prior to the late election, resigned his office of branch postmaster. A strong effort should now be made to have a post office on this side of the town, subsidiary to the general post office at the Spit, but in a separate building and in charge of a post office clerk, who should be qualified to issue money orders and transact the business appertaining to the Post Office Savings Banks, which are now part of the postal system. Philharmonic Society. — The fourth concert of this society took place on the evening of Thursday last. The last of the season, it was generally, we may say universally, admitted to be the best. The .music generally was somewhat better adapted to popular taste than on the last occasion, and the execution of many of the pieces was such as to elicit the warm admiration of the audience. In the first part, the pianoforte duett " A te o Cara," and the song " The last rose of summer," were, with others, rendered with great taste and beauty. The second contained some exquisite pieces, and the effect of the echo in Lutzow's wild chase — the last on the programme — was very striking. We were pleased to find, from an announcement made at the close by the Conductor, that this useful society is likely soon to enter upon a second phase of existence — ifc being the intention to remodel the rules to some extent, and then to commence another season.
