HAWKE'S BAY RACES, 1867.

We have much pleasure in directing attention to the programme of our local races, which shews a marked improvement, both in the value of the prizes and the order of running, upon that of previous years ; and we trust the public will shew a clue appreciation of the efforts made by the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club and the stewards of the race meeting. The Jockey Club, we understand, head the list of subscriptions with a sum of £100; the Cup money is also the gift of the Club. A further sum of £300 will, however, be required to enable the stewards to carry out the programme as advertised ; but we have no doubt the Hawke's Bay public will liberally respond to the call made upon them. The number of Auckland horses here, in training for the meeting, with

the prospect of a further addition to their number from Wanganui, shews that our meetings are beginning to attract attention in the neighboring provinces. There is now no doubt, from the favorable weather we have had, that the new racecourse will be in a fit state to run on ; aud its proximity to town will add greatly to the success of the meeting.
