LONDON WOOL REPORT.

The sales opened on the 17th Angus!;: the arrivals in time for this series consisting of — Sydney, 35,897 bales ; Port Philip, 15,848 bales ; Van Diemen's Land, 10,477 bales ; New Zealand, 34,753 bales; Adelaide, 6,318 bales; Swan Kiver, 501 bales; Capo, 19,725 bales; total, 123,519 bales. The attendance of buyers, both home and foreign, was an average one. and the prices established at the firsfe evening's sale may bo estimated as equal to the average of last sales ; for stapled wools and fine Sydney prices were a shade higher, but medium and faulty descriptions were bid for with less spirit. The unsettled weather has produced great caution in the bids of the dealers, and, had it not been that many of the leading manufacturers wore very bare of stock, we do not anticipate that so favourable a report of prices could be quoted. Up to this evening opening rates aro fully supported, and, should the weather prove propitious for completing harvest, we anticipate that the whole quantity to bo submitted will find ready buyers at full current rates ; but a prevalence of bad weather would produce great distrust in tho North, and its continuance would cause wool to fall seriously, the dealers not being willing to stock except all circumstances look very favourable.
