BUTTER SLIGHTLY IMPROVES MORE DEMAND IN LONDON CHEESE OUTLOOK BRIGHTER. Butter Quotations — This week.—94/-, 95/-; firm. Last week.—94/-; quiet. Last year.—SO/-. THE BUTTER. POSITION. Butter shows a slight improvement over last week, touching 95/-, which is 1/- better than last Saturday. This is 15/- better than the ruling rate at this time last year and is equal to 11.13 d per lb. f.o.b. New Zealand main ports. Deliveries of New Zealand butter in London for the week show a further advance on the previous week, the figures being 1648 tons, compared with 1191 tons the previous week and 1432 tons at the same period last year. There is now more enquiry for New Zealand butter in England and this is reflected in the deliveries. The store position also continues to improve and there is less than half the quantity in London that there was last year, the figures being 6005 tons and 12,075 tons respectively. For the previous week the quantity in store was 5296 tons. The retail price of New Zealand butter in London remains unchanged at 1/- lb. with Danish at 1/1 lb. The stock position in London at August 1 was better than it had been at the same date for over two years. THE CHEESE MARKET. Cheese has advanced slightly since last week, and now coloured is quoted at 49/- and white at 40/6, which is 6d and 1/- better respectively than last week. For the first lime for many months the prices are better than those ruling 12 months previously. The present prices are equivalent to 5.3 d per lb. f.o.b. New Zealand main ports.

Deliveries in London for the week totalled 26,894 crates, which is an improvement of 7000 crates on the previous week and 2000 better than the same period last year. There -were in store on August 16, 121,964 crates, icompared with 143,442 crates last year and 138,286 crates at the previous week. Grading returns for the week ended August 10 were 847 crates, compared with 795 crates at the same period last year. The retail price of New Zealand cheese in London remains unchanged at 6d per lb.
