A BRIGHTER OUTLOOK
POSITION IN NEW ZEALAND. INVESTORS MORE CONFIDENT. (By Telegraph— Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 22. A final dividend of per cent., making a total dividend for the year of 4£ per cent., was declared at the 49th annual meeting of the Wellington Investment Trustee and Agency Co., Ltd. ' ;
The chairman of directors, Mr G. G. Gibbes Watson, said he thought the shareholders had no cause to be dissatisfied with the results of the year 's operations. “As to the prospects for the coming year," he added, “the immediate outlook in New Zealand is distinctly better than for a considerable time.- Dairy produce has reached a price which, together with the 25 per cent, exchange, should make it by no means unprofitable to the farmer who has paid anything like a prudent price for his land. Wool prospects appear better, and not only are meat prices satisfactory, but our' representatives overseas have also achieved considerable success in their negotiations with the Imperial Government, rendering unlikely any restriction of output for the present.
‘ ‘ These factors all make for better conditions for the farming industry,, and it is the success of that industry upon which New Zealand Is dependent for its economic wellbeing. These better 'conditions in that industry are already becoming manifest in city activities. Insofar as stock exchange activity is a barometer there are at the present time indications of increasing confidence on the part of investors. Better results are also indicated in the returns of most trading companies. Having regard to all these factors, we can, I think, confidently anticipate that conditions will continue to improve during the coming years."
