SOCIAL ROUND

Mrs J. Thomson left this morning; for Palmerston North. Miss Myra Nowell and Miss Marjorie Horner arrived from Masterton last week to spend the school vacation with their parents. Miss: E. Buist, who has been visiting Auckland for a few days, returned home to-day. • After visiting her parents for a fortnight, Miss Molly Thurston returned to Taumarunui on Monday. Mrs Bissett, -who has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs A. Smith, for several weeks, left on Friday to visit friends in Auckland before returning to Bussell. Miss B. McLean, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs VV. J. Bright for a few days. Miss M. Murray, who is at present on the staff of the Hawera Main •School, has accepted a position at lona College, Havelock North. Mrs C. Gardner entertained friends at tea on Friday afternoon, when her guests were Mesdames Bissett (Russell), H. W. Jones, 0- S. Robb, A. Smith, Misses S. Lovell, E. Buiot and P. Lovell.

Mesdames C. Tickner, H. £3. McWilliam, L. Hamilton (iManutahi), R. P. Baigent, H. R. Kemp and Miss Harkness were Mis 11. M. Besley’s guests at afternoon tea on Wednesday.

Mrs C. Whittington was hostess at tea on Thursday afternoon, when those present were Mesdames A. F. Excell, G. S. Fry, A. Hart-op, Collier, E. M. Bardsley, B. S. Ward, C. Stewart, J. E. Dingle, C. Irvine and L. H. Giblin. The -hostess received her guests wearing a pretty frock of forget-me-not blue souplo satin and lace and vases of gold and orange Iceland poppies were tastefully arranged in the sittingroom- ’

A bridge and “500” afternoon was held in St. Mary’s Hall on Thursday afternoon in order to raise funds for the cake stall for the September flower show. The committee consisted of Mesdames G. B. Mann, W. O. Williams, 3E. Douglas, McAnerin, Misses Symes' and Exley. The prize-winners were Mrs J. W. Ogle (auction bridge), Mrs Hawk (contract bridge) and Mrs Harding (“500”). For the occasion the hall had been decorated with pussywillow and multi-coloured spring blooms*. There was a large attendance and the stall should benefit by this effort. Afternoon tea was served by the committee.
