NEW VITAMIN DISCOVERED
PROFESSOR’S ANNOUNCEMENT. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright). Received noon to-day. SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 20. A viochemicaf discovery of considerable importance was revealed here before the American Chemical. Society with the announcement that Professor Evans, of the University of California, who, in 1922, identified vitamin “E,” had finally succeeded in isolating an element found in wheat germ, lettuce and cotton seed and some other green vegetables. It is known as “fertility vitamin,” the absence of which in the diet of mammals produces sterility. Science has succeeded in obtaining crystals with high vitamins “E” potency ancl states it is expected to produce the element in commercial quantities within 90 days.
