A Berlin correspondent of the “News-Chronicle’ 1 says -an -open quarrel that may have far-reaching consequences for the Hitler regime has broken out between ! Nazi' extremists, led by Dr Goebbels and Dr Schacht, following Dr Schacht’s speech at Konigsberg in which he attacked Herr Streicher’s Jew-baiting methods. Dr Goebbels ordered the speech to be heavily censored before publicaespecially the part in which Dr Schacht openly attacked the extremist Nazis whose violent - methods, he said, were hindering Germany’s economic recovery.
Dr Schacht is supported by powerful conservative industrialists as well as by the Conservative element of the Keichswehr. He intends to place before Herr Hitler. the realities of the situation and will also further attempt to persuade Herr Hitler to call off the anti-Jewish campaign.
It is reported that Dr Schacht, who is Minister of Economics and president of the Reichsbank, is ready to resign unless he is assured that Germany’s serious economic situation is secured against disturbance by violent outside elements.
