COUNTRY GIRLS AT NEW PLYMOUTH FIRST DAY SUCCESSFUL The first day of the Taranaki country girls’ educational week proved to lie very successful. The course is being held at New Plymouth and the secretary, Mrs C. A. Hunt (Stratford), said that she was delighted with the spirit being shown by the girls, who were obtaining the maximum benefit from their association with one another. After the morning lecture?; yesterday the party met at the museum in the" afternoon and under the guidance of Air W. H. Skinner was conducted round the building and given a most comprehensive idea of the history of early Taranaki. He pointed out to the part}’ the major exhibits in the Hempton room and conducted it through the old colonists’ room. Mr Skinner took the visitors to St. Alary’s Churcn and told them its history since the laying of the first stone in 1845. He also dealt with the stories connected with the old flags hanging in the church. In the evening instruction in folk dancing was given by Airs H. E. Ayckbourn and the girls took active part in some of the dances. Music was played, by Miss L. Baynes. Folk dancing proved a. popular item of the day’s programme. There are- 67 names on the roll of the party. Of these 23 girls are from
