SHOW POULTRY AWARDS

NORTH ISLAND CHAMPION H. MCNEILL’S BEST BIRD , LONG LIST OF SPECIALS,. A feature of the South Taranaki Winter Know .yesterday was the fine exhibition of poultry and cage birds arranged by the Hawera Poultry Society. One North Island championship was -decided, the Ancona s, standaid fancy, going to Smith and Lang (Palmerston North). No entries "ere received for the other championship allotted to the show, American White Leghorns. A tie resulted for the South laranaki Winter Show Company’s Oup for most points in poultry classes, Alls F. A. Warren (Hawera) and J. Ruscce (Wanganui) scoring the same number' of points. H. McNeill exhibited the best bird in the show and Moreland Bros., Normanby, the best young bird.

Airs F. A. Warren won the president’s challenge shield for most points in the poultry section. Aliss D. Swadiing and G. W. Clark won the New Zealand Utility Minorca Chib’s cups for best bird and best opposite sex bird in the utility Alinorea classes. H. AlcNeill was awarded the John Jarvis Honour Bowl for the best bird in the standard fancy sections, while W. E. Watson and C. C. Cleaver won Rhode Island Red Club ribbons for best utility maic and female birds respectively. Commenting on the entries, the. judge of the poultry section, Mr D. Stewart, Normanby, said that all connected with the show were to be congratulated. The display of game fowl was particularly fine and a high standard was the order among the entries. In the utility section the White Leghorn class was the largest in the show with 20 entries. There was little between the first two placed birds. The pullet won the prize for the best Leghorn at the show and also four other specials. The cockerels were also a strong class, the winning bird being outstanding. The hens were a good class, but a large number of the birds were not feathered out to show condition. Alore interest was" displayed in Brown Leghorns than usual. Quality in both utility and fancy sections was high. In the. utility section Orpingtons were particularly strong. Entries in the fancy were not numerous, but quality was good. Plymouth Rocks were also of good quality, the special for the best bird going to the winning hen in the utility class. It was a good type and beautifully forward. There were some fine specimens among the ducks,’ while bantams were strong, there being good entries in practically every class. The best bird was a pile cockerel. WINNERS OF TROPHIES.
