Airs Y. Powell, Auckland, is the guest of Mrs E. JR. Bavin. Miss M. McKay, Auckland, is the guest of Miss D. Gray. Miss Chapman, Masterton, who has been the guest of her cousin, Airs W. W. Gibson, returned south on Saturday. Miss Nancy Nowell, who has been in Auckland for the past eight months, recently won an Elam scholarship, chiefly for clay modelling, which entitles her to attend the school of art. Miss Elsie Twaddle, who has been studying at the Sydney Conservatorium, arrived early in the week to spend a holiday with her mother, Airs Twaddle, before returning to Sydney. —<* Mrs J. B. Gibson and Aliss Chapman (Napier). Mrs • Murdoch wore a handsome floral frock of saxe blue and Aliss Ethel Murdoch, who assisted her mother, was lrocked in patterned silk maroeain.

Bowls of autumn leaves, pastel pink camellias and mauve stylosas made pretty decorations when Airs E. R. Bavin invited friends to tea on Tuesday afternoon. The principal guest. Mrs A 7. Powell, Auckland, wore a deei beige broderie Anglais frock of stylish cut. The hostess’ frock was fashioned in tunic style, with a black marocain ■ blouse trimmed with diamante, and a black lace skirt. Alesdames H. Al. Caselberg, H. AY. Swinbum, J. AV. Ogle, R. J. O’Dea, H. H. Bramwell, O. O. Pratt, T. F. AlcKenzie and A. Smith were the guests.
