VICTORY FOR NORTH

PRIMARY SCHOOLS RUGBY MARGIN OF THREE POINTS WINNERS’ BACKS SUPERIOR. Superiority in their back division gave tho North Taranaki primary schools representatives a- win over the South Taranaki team in the curtainraiser to the Wellington-Taranaki match at Huwcra yesterday, although the score of 3 to- nil was a- fair indication, of the fortunes of the game. The Southern pack were definitely superior, -and time and again carried play into:. North’s territory, only for their backs to let them down. For Nofth, IJoskin and Elder both played fine games, while the full-back Vaile was. a. tower of strength. His tackling was good and his line kicking first-class. Priest played soundly at half, feeding his backs nicely. Erb, McLeod and Spence impressed most of the forwards. The South full-back, Ngoru, was in dined to run far too often with the ball instead of kicking. Nuku was the best of the back division, among which there appeared to bo very little combination. Headed by Jiurn and Harkiioss, the South forwards attacked at the start of the second spell, but- faulty handling by their hacks let North clear. However, a. good kick" by Ansley sent South back, on the attack again and from tight play a' South forward narrowly failed to go ever. North cleared and had .South on the defensive when a. misjudged kick went right into t.hc hands of Hoskin. who sent Elder and Instone away for the latter to lose possession when in a handy scoring position. North were awarded a. penalty. Elder's, kick going astray and South forced. The; South* forwards

carried play downfield, but found Vaile very-safe. Elder booted and followed up fast to secure and be held up on the South quarter way mark. However, their -tracks were letting South down badly and repeatedly lost ground. With the ball at toe Ansley crossed the North line, but only for Vaileto beat him to the t-oueh-down. South continued to attack hotly but could not penetrate tho solid defence. ‘Elder cleared with a good kick and, following up fast, regained possession, putting in a good run before being stopped by Ngeru.
