POPULARITY MAINTAINED

South Taranaki Show Attracts Large Crowds EXHIBITION HALL THRONGED WIDELY VARIED EXHIBITS Crowds thronged the Winter Show Buildings in Hawera yesterday afternoon and again last night, when the turnstile registers disclosed attendances equal to those of the best years of the society, and reflected the continued popularity of this annual fixture. The change in layout of the raaiiy exhibition halls and the colourfid decorations received favourable comment, while the general excellence of the displays by public institutions and by private firms in the trades’ section were considered to be of an unusually high standard. In particular did this apply to Motor Olympia, arranged by the Hawera garage proprietors on most dignified lines. The lines of cars made an imposing spectacle as patrons passed through the main entrance and the ultra-modern designs, which all the new models feature, caused the visitor to pause in admiration.

The chief centres of attraction for the. womenfolk are the home industries and fancy work halls in the body of the building and the competitive display of home industries and farm and garden produce staged by South Taranaki Women’s Institutes in the upstairs portion above Lloyd George Hall. Showmen’s Alley was well patronised and a “roaring” business was done as each in turn endeavoured to draw attention to the merits of his particular attraction. The show in its management left nothing to be desired and it is anticipated that to-day’s sessions and Friday and Saturday will attract further large attendances. The show will conclude at IQ o’clock on Saturday night. GAGE BIRD AWARDS. BUDGERIGARS Awards in the cage bird section at the South Taranaki Winter Show wore announced last night. Large entries wore received in the majority ot classes, a particularly strong section being budgerigars. Several outstanding birds are on display and their delicate colourings were a subject of considerable comment in the poultry hall last night. Results are as follow:

Largo crowds have been moving th and out of. the marquee occupied by the Bridal Couple at the Hawera Winter Show. As the show progresses interest in these two remarkably small persons increases, which goes to prove that this attraction is all that it is claimed to be. Visitors to the show are recommended to pay tlio Bridal Couple a visit, as they are assured of a refined and intelligent exhibition.
